BloggingGhana’s Election project, Ghana Decides 2.0: The VOICES Campaign.  The project seeks to promote youth and marginalized voices towards a peaceful, credible, issue-based and inclusive elections.

Reports to
The Ghana Decides Lead and the Social Media Team Lead.

Job Summary

Coordinates social media responsibilities for Ghana Decides 2.0. The Social Media Manager will play a key role in promoting 2016 Elections issue-based coverage and conversations between bloggers, social media users, CSOs, IGIs and the general public.  He/she will work with both the Project Coordinator and the Ghana Decides Lead to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Implements and coordinates the Ghana Decides Social Media Strategy
  • Implements Ghana Decides Content Strategy online
  • Manages all of the project’s social media platforms, including day-to-day activities, online advocacy, community outreach, news and promotions
  • Manages the social media content calendar including advance scheduling and sharing of content
  • Assists with project strategy development, project goals, measurement metrics, planning and brainstorming
  • Works on electoral-related campaigns and advocacy on the project’s social media platforms
  • Creates and curates issue-based content for Ghana Decides’ social media platforms
  • Expands online reach of Ghana Decides and BloggingGhana
  • Works on design of Ghana Decides’ social media platforms
  • Ensures Ghana Decides’ social media platforms promote Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI)
  • Develops key relationships with BloggingGhana members
  • Develops relationships and collaborations with traditional media, civil society organizations  and other key stakeholders to further project’s work
  • Cross-posts on InformGhana social media platforms
  • Coordinates administration of surveys on online platforms
  • Initiates/encourages issue-based conversations on various social media platforms
  • Ensures proper messaging is being executed online and is relevant to the goals of Ghana Decides and BloggingGhana.
  • Establishes consistency of message across multiple networks
  • Attends workshops, conferences and other events on behalf of project
  • Seeks, monitors, documents feedback and evaluates effectiveness of online work
  • Compiles monthly reports on social media work, reach and results.
  • Works closely with additional members of social media team and volunteers
  • Works closely and collaborates with all teams within Ghana Decides
  • Helps with coverage and coordination of Ghana Decides’ offline engagements and activities.
  • Provides assistance with materials, information, data gathering and analysis
  • Other duties pertaining to the project
  • Other duties pertaining to BloggingGhana’s social media work, as assigned

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent languages skills in English and at least one Ghanaian language.
  • Must be ambitious, self-driven, personable, social and have a positive attitude
  • Able to rise up to a challenge
  • Displays in-depth knowledge of and understanding of Social Media platforms and the blogosphere, their respective participants and how each platform can be deployed and managed
  • General overall knowledge of content distribution, online publishing, and the supportive tools. Must understand how content is created, spread and consumed online
  • Personally and/or professionally active in the social media space
  • Sophisticated understanding and appreciation of emerging media and communication
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format
  • Understanding of and experience in online advocacy campaigning
  • Ability to manage/follow campaigns from idea conception through to implementation and evaluation
  • Creativity and documented immersion in Social Media
  • Experience in project implementation
  • Is a dynamic Team player with confidence to take lead and guide others when necessary (ie: content development, creative and editing of content and online reputation management)
  • A proactive decision-maker in a fast-paced environment
  • Can learn how to use new tools quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Excels at building and maintaining relationships with Ghana Decides’ target audience and beneficiaries.
  • Demonstrates good customer services techniques. Possesses great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply swift conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.
  • Discretion and good judgement when working with sensitive information
  • Ability to work under high pressure and to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Strong aptitude in MS Excel, MS Word etc.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to travel at short notice
  • A Bachelor’s degree is an advantage
